WhatsApp chat QR code
Customers scan once and land in a WhatsApp chat with you, message ready to send.
What is your QR code for?
Make one in three steps
- Enter your WhatsApp number with the country code, like +44.
- Add an optional message so customers know what to send.
- Scan the preview to check the chat opens with the right number.
What goes inside the code
An example, using sample details:
https://wa.me/447700900123?text=Hello%2C%20I%20would%20like%20to%20book%20a%20table%20for%20two%20on%20Friday.
- Always include the country code
- WhatsApp needs the full international number. Drop the leading 0 and start with the country code, so 07700 900123 becomes +44 7700 900123.
- Prefill a useful message
- A message such as "Hello, I would like to book a table" tells you why they are getting in touch and saves a round of questions. Customers can edit it before sending.
- Use a business number
- If several staff reply to customers, put your WhatsApp Business number on the code rather than a personal phone, so messages do not go unanswered when someone is off.
Common questions
Does the person scanning need my number saved?
No. The code opens a wa.me link, which starts a chat with your number straight away. They do not need to add you as a contact first.
Can I change the prefilled message later?
The message is part of the static code, so changing it means making and printing a new code. Keep the wording general if the code is going on something you will not reprint often.
What happens if WhatsApp is not installed?
The wa.me link opens a WhatsApp page in the phone's browser instead, which offers to download the app. Once it is installed, they can scan again and the chat opens as normal.
