What goes inside the code

An example, using sample details:

BEGIN:VEVENT
SUMMARY:Example Kitchen summer open day
DTSTART:20260718T100000Z
DTEND:20260718T150000Z
LOCATION:Example Kitchen\, High Street\, London
DESCRIPTION:Free tastings all afternoon.
END:VEVENT
Check the time zone
The time zone fills in from your device. If the event is somewhere else, change it to the venue's zone, such as Europe/London, so guests see the right time.
Print the date as well
Scanner support for calendar codes varies by phone, and some apps show the raw details instead of an add button. Print the date, time and place in words next to the code.
Use All day for fairs
For fairs, markets or anything spanning several days, switch on All day and set a last day. Calendars then block out the whole date rather than a set hour.

An event page with RSVPs

Pro ($4.99 a month) includes a hosted event and RSVP page behind a dynamic code. Edit the time or venue after printing, and see how many times the code was scanned.

Common questions

Which phones can add the event?

iPhone Camera and Google Lens usually offer to add it to the calendar. Some other scanner apps show the event text instead. Support varies by phone, so test with the phones your guests are likely to use.

What format does the code use?

It holds an iCalendar VEVENT, the format calendar apps use for invitations. Times are stored in UTC, so each guest's calendar shows the event in their own time zone.

Can I change the time after printing?

Not in a static code, as the details are in the pattern. A hosted event page on Pro lets you update the time and take RSVPs, and the printed code keeps pointing at it.
