Already have a plan? Sign in

Make one in three steps

  1. Enter the mobile number that should receive the texts.
  2. Type the message people should send, such as a keyword.
  3. Scan the preview to check the number and wording are right.

What goes inside the code

An example, using sample details:

SMSTO:+447700900123:CALLBACK please, about my order
Start with a keyword
For sign-ups, competitions or callbacks, prefill one clear word such as JOIN or CALLBACK. Replies are then easy to sort and hard to get wrong.
Mention the cost of texting
The text goes from the scanner's own phone at their usual rate. Say so on the sign if your number is abroad or your audience might be paying per message.
Offer another way in
In basements, festivals or rural spots a text may not send straight away. If timing matters, add a phone or website code alongside so people have a second option.

Common questions

What format does an SMS QR code use?

It uses SMSTO, written as SMSTO:number:message. iPhone Camera, Google Lens and most scanner apps read it and open a new text with the number and message filled in.

Does the text send automatically?

No. Scanning only opens the messages app with everything filled in. The person still has to press send, and they can change the wording first.

Can I use a landline number?

Only if your provider lets that number receive texts. Most landlines cannot, so use a mobile or a business texting number you know accepts messages.
