Share your Wi‑Fi with a QR code

A Wi‑Fi code holds your network name and password in a format phones understand. Guests point their camera at it and tap to join. No typing, no spelling out a password across the counter.

What you need

  • The network name, exactly as it appears in your phone’s Wi‑Fi list. Capital letters matter.
  • The password, exactly as set on the router.
  • The security type. Almost every modern router uses WPA2 or WPA3; choose WPA. Pick WEP only for very old equipment.

Which phones can read it

iPhone Camera (iOS 11 and later) and Android camera apps or Google Lens join directly. Some older Android phones need a scanner app. Passwords with symbols like ; , : or quotes are escaped automatically so they still work.

Keep it safe

Anyone who can see the code can join, so use a guest network if your router offers one. If you change the password, make a new code; a static code can’t update itself. Your password never leaves your device when you use QR Hippo: the code is made in your browser.
