Static or dynamic QR code: which do you need?

Both kinds look the same and scan the same way. The difference is what’s inside.

Static: the content is the code

A static code holds the link, text or Wi‑Fi details directly. It works offline from any server, never expires, and costs nothing. But once printed, it can’t change. Choose static for Wi‑Fi signs, contact cards, and links you’re sure won’t move.

Dynamic: the code holds a short link you control

A dynamic code holds an address like qrhippo.online/q/k7Hd2mPq. When someone scans it, we send them on to the destination you’ve set, which you can change at any time. You also see how many times it’s scanned each day.

Choose dynamic for menus, posters, packaging and campaigns: anything where the destination might change, or where you want to know if the code is being used.

The trade-off

A dynamic code depends on the redirect service staying up and your plan staying active. At QR Hippo, if a plan ends the code keeps redirecting for 12 months so printed codes don’t break overnight. See plans or make a free static code.
